The Moody Blue Devils losing streak continues as they fall short on the road at rival Springville 23 – 14. It was Springville’s first win in the series in quite a few years.
Tiger Stadium in Springville was the scene. It was senior night for the Tigers and they looked to celebrate a victory at the end of the night. The Tigers got off to a good start with a nine play 63 yard drive that resulted in a 6 yard touchdown. The extra point failed, but Springville was on the board, up 6 – 0.
The teams went back and forth with the football in the second quarter, but the Tigers ended with the last possession on the half. The Tigers drove into Moody territory and ended the half with a 25 yard field goal at the buzzer to put them up 9 – 0 at halftime.
Moody got the ball to start the second half, and also got themselves back in the game. A great return by Logan Cole gave Moody great field position. A big 27 yard pass play from Karson Buckner to Cyric Williams set Moody up at the Tigers 26 yard line. After scampering for seven yards to pick up a first down, Buckner later connected with Josh Struggs for a nine yard gain to put Moody deeper in Tiger territory. Looking at first and goal from the Tiger 10 yard line, Conner Rush got the carry and faught his way to the one yard line. Two plays later on 4th and goal at the one, Rashad Clark punched the ball in the end zone for the score. The two point try failed, but Moody was back in the game trailing 9 – 6 with 5:12 left in the third.
Springville did not let up after the Moody score. The Tigers followed the Blue Devil score with a 65 yard drive for a touchdown. The extra point was good and after three quarters Springville increased their lead to 16 – 6.
Jordan Maxwell picked off a Springville pass to get Moody the ball back early in the forth. The Tigers answered back with two picks of their own. The second pick led to a four play drive for a score. The extra point was good and Springville was in the driver’s seat up 23 – 6 over Moody.
Moody still had a lot of fight left in them. The Blue Devils drove 84 yards for a score. Buckner connected with Williams for a 16 yard touchdown. Buckner also connect with Williams on the two point try to make the score 23 – 14.
That would be you final score, as Moody ran out of time. Moody falls to 1 – 6(1 – 4). The road does not get any easier for the Blue Devils.
