The third annual National Night Out was held Oct. 2 in Steele. Over 250 residents and friends were in attendance to enjoy a warm fall evening with free food and entertainment.
The National Guard provided a climbing wall and a Lifesaver helicopter joined the festivities. There was a bounce house, face painting and a scavenger hunt for the kids with prizes provided by the Steele Library and Dr. Ivey Rutledge.
Love’s Truck Stop provided hot dogs as well as pizza, a well-rounded menu, with drinks from Buffalo Rock. Lots of prize drawings thanks to J&K Tire & Service, Outback Trailers, Wayne Wood (Kell Realty), Kathy Abrams, (Go Figure Fitness), Mike’s Back Porch BBQ, and Dawn Lucy (Edward Jones).
Two drawings were held for a spay/neuter certificate for your dog or cat from Dr. Philip Gleason, Argo Animal Clinic and Dr. Roger Adams, Sand Mountain Small Animal/Equine Hospital. This drawing was coordinated with ASPCI which is a pet rescue and transport but they also offer low-cost spay certificates to residents.
The Steele Police Department, Steele Fire Department, St Clair County SWAT team, DARE officer and Springville’s Lt. Wayne Walton with his motorcycle were on hand.
Information tables were set up by the St Clair County Extension Office, Alabama Forestry Service, and the YWCA domestic violence prevention. The next National Night Out will be on the first Tuesday of October next year.
