A group of residents have lodged complaints about an overgrowth of grass and weeds at Pine Harbor Golf Associates.
The residents say the grass isn’t cut enough, and that yellow cattle weed is causing allergies for those living in the area. Yellow cattle weed makes the process of harvesting hay much harder, too.
“The public hearing was for the City Council to consider abating the overgrown property, however since the property was in the process of being cut by the owner no action was taken, and the matter was tabled until the next meeting,” Pell City City Manager Brian Muenger said.
The Pine Harbor Golf Associates has 192 acres to maintain. Some residents are upset the property is handled twice a year, while others are upset because they say it makes neighborhood look bad.
PHGA has owned the land since the ‘80s; and the area used to be a beautiful golf course. Then it became a golf club; however, it was closed down about 5 years ago.
Just recently, PHGA took down the Golf Club entirely. Their intent is to build about 10 new houses. However, they will have to file a request to rezone and PHGA’s representative said they will take legal steps with the Planning and Zoning commission to talk about their new ideas.
