It was a tough road trip for the Moody Blue Devils last Friday night as the Central Clay County Volunteers handed the Blue Devils a 41 – 7 loss. This was the first of back-to-back road games for Moody.
For the fourth straight week, to start the season, the Moody Blue Devils played their 4th top ten team in a row. Week one was #2 Etowah County, week two was then #6 ranked St. Clair County. Week three was #8 ranked Sylacauga and last Friday night was #9 ranked Central of Clay County. What a way to start the season.
The Volunteers of Central Clay County got off to a good start last Friday night, setting the tone for what was unfortunately a long night for the Moody Blue Devils. The Vols fumbled on their first possession, recovered by Jordan Maxwell for Moody. Central Clay stopped Moody in three plays and got the ball back. They then put together a 12 play 83 yard scoring drive to give them a 7 – 0 after the first quarter.
The Volunteers scored on three of four possessions in the second quarter to take a commanding 28 – 0 lead at halftime. The Blue Devil defense, as usual caused a fumble that was recovered by Joel McCormick, but the deficit was 28 – 0 in favor of the Volunteers at half time.
Central Clay fumbled the football on the first play of the second half, which was scooped up by Alijah Daniel of Moody. The Vols also fumbled on their second drive of the second half, this time recovered by freshman Logan Suggs. Moody then put together a 6 play drive that ended with a missed 36 yard field goal. The Vols followed that miss up with a 5 play 64 yard drive to take a 35 – 0 lead after three quarters.
The Vols added another score in the fourth quarter, but missed the PAT. Tykhi Wesley ended the scoring for everyone on the night with a 2 -yard touchdown run. When it was all said and done, Central Clay County cruised to a 41 – 7 Homecoming win over the Moody Blue Devils.
Moody will travel for the second week in a row, this time to Shelby County. Moody lost a close one in overtime last season. Moody will return home next Friday night for Homecoming against the Munford Lions, in a critical region matchup. Moody will then hit the road for another two game road trip at rival Springville and at Center Point.
Kickoff for Moody at Shelby County is at 7 p.m. tomorrow night.
