“Lost and Found”- New and True Stories from Storyteller Dolores Hydock

Published 4:56 pm Thursday, August 2, 2018

Pell City Public Library welcomes beloved storyteller, Dolores Hydock, on Wednesday, August 8 at noon as she presents “Lost and Found,” true stories of what you find when you are looking for something else!  You know how it can happen.  You start out looking for something and end up finding something else entirely something that you didn’t even realize that you wanted to find! In this new collection of stories, Hydock does just that in her wonderful and magical way!

Dolores Hydock is a master storyteller.  As she weaves her heart-warming stories, she connects with her audience like no other!  The stories may be humorous or heart-rending, but they never fail to resonate and reflect what is encountered in every-day life.  She has been a featured storyteller at the National Storytelling Festival and served as Teller-in-Residence at the International Storytelling Center in Jonesboro, Tennessee.   Her work has been featured at concerts, festivals and special events all over the United States.   Her eleven CDs of original stories have received awards from “Storytelling World Magazine” for excellence in storytelling.

Hydock’s interest in acting began at an early age.  In fact, she won her first blue ribbon at the age of 5, at a local storytelling contest in her hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania.  Hydock completed her studies in American Folklore at Yale University, and she has a Master of Arts in Story Arts/Communications from East Tennessee State University.  She has taught acting and storytelling at Birmingham Southern College.  As an actress, her performances include but are not limited to “Shirley Valentine, Fully Committed, In Her Own Fashion, Talking Heads”, “Nothing Sacred: An Evening with Ferrol Sams”, “Tony Curtis Speaks Italian and All I Can Say is ‘I Love You,’” and “The Woman With All the Answers.”  In her spare time, Dolores enjoys gardening in Birmingham where she currently resides.

Hydock’s presentation of “Lost and Found” at the Pell City Library on Wednesday, August 8 at noon, is part of the library’s 2018 Adult Summer Reading Program.  The event at the library is free and open to the public.  Guests are encouraged to stay for light refreshments afterwards.  Readers participating in the reading segment of our Adult Summer Reading series will want to stay for the drawing to take place at the conclusion of the event.  Those who have not registered to participate in the reading segment of the Adult Summer Reading Series may still do so. Participating readers choose the books that they read and may place an entry in the drawing for each selection read throughout the program. Awesome prizes provided by local merchants, Writer’s Anonymous (Poetry Writers Group), individual donors, and the Pell City Library Guild will be given away to those lucky enough to have their name drawn at the weekly programs, and at the finale on August 15.  Dolores Hydock’s performances are always magical.  This one is no exception!  Don’t miss it!
