It was an exciting weekend in Leeds with the Miss Leeds Area and Outstanding Teen Pageant celebrating their 39th year. Miss Leeds Area was founded in 1980 and is an official preliminary to the Miss Alabama Scholarship pageant. Braidyn Lazenby was crowned Miss Leeds Area 2019 and Coco Green was crowned Miss Leeds Outstanding Teen. Twelve girls competed for Miss Leeds Area and thirteen girls competed for Teen. The theme was “I’m a Little Bit Country”, I’m a Little Bit Rock n’ Roll” representing Miss Leeds Area 2018, Bailey Kennon, and Miss Leeds Outstanding Teen 2018, Zoe’ Champion. Also, attending was Miss Alabama Outstanding Teen, Collins McMurray.
Also, Bailey’s father, Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon, spoke at the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce meeting last week on tourism and how our beautiful Alabama beaches impact the state.
The Leeds Jane Culbreth Library will host a “Libraries Rock” event, 80’s Music Trivia, this Saturday, June 30 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. for ages 12 and up. The Moody Kid Quilts Group is scheduled to meet on Monday and Tuesday, July 2 and 3 at Moody City Hall to make quilts for sick children at Children’s Hospital. Bring your sewing machine, ironing board, fabric and supplies to make these beautiful quilts together. Leeds City Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 2 at Leeds Civic Center meeting room.
Moody Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 2 at White’s Chapel.
Moody Kiwanis Club is scheduled to meet at Noon on Tuesday, July 3 at Moody City Hall.

The Moody Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to their next chamber luncheon, which is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 12 at Moody City Hall. Topic of discussion will be Workplace Etiquette. RSVP to Andrea Machen, Executive Director, at 205-640-6262.
On Thursday, July 12 at 1 p.m., the Doris Stanley Memorial Library will host Dr. Fran Carter. Dr. Carter is a founding member of the Rosie the Riveter Association. She was a Rose the Riveter during World War II. The program will be held at the Moody Civic Center.
The Leeds Arts Council will present their summer musical, “Hunchback of Notre Dame”, which is a new musical based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney film. Produced by Sandi Nicholson and directed by Cliff Keen, Jr., the show dates are July 13-15, 20-22 and 27. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling 205-699-1892. You will not want to miss this powerful event with the retelling of Victor Hugo’s epic story of love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero.
Eden Westside Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School’s Time Lab at 6:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday, July 23-27 at their Leeds River Campus. Dinner is provided and VBS is completely free. The 2018 Chick-fil-A Leeds Cows on Vacation Contest in underway. Cows on Vacation is an annual contest to see who can get the most popular photo of one of their mini-moo plush cows on various adventures over the summer. One free mini-moo is given out per household and then you upload your pictures of the cow on your vacation to compete for free food. Also, remember that Grandparents Day will be held every Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. through July. Visit the Leeds Chick-fil-A or their Facebook page for more information.
Remember to support the Leeds Downtown Farmer’s Market each Thursday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. for plenty of fresh produce this summer.
