Alabama Lions Eyeglass Recycle Center (ALERC) located in Moody now has a new way to fulfill the Lions motto “WE SERVE”.

Since 2011 the Lions of Alabama have collected donated eyeglasses from all over the state of Alabama to be recycled for vision mission trips to other countries.  All these glasses are processed by Lions, mostly members of the Moody Lions Club, at the Alabama Lions Eyeglass Recycle Center.

Director PCC Lion Vernon Barker said, “Lions are proud of the work done at the Center but I’m happy to announce a new service that could benefit people in Alabama.”

Scottsboro Lions Club has an arrangement to receive all excess eyeglasses collected by Unclaimed Baggage Store in Scottsboro.  ALERC receives a large portion of these glasses from Scottsboro Lions.  Lion Barker said last year while visiting Unclaimed Baggage it was brought to his attention they had wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, walking sticks and baby strollers if he had a need for them.  With the cooperation of the Moody Lions, the Sheriff’s Dept. and the City of Moody arrangements were made to transport a supply to a storage area in Moody.

At this time ALERC has given 19 wheelchairs, six walking sticks and three walkers to people that needed them.   These are given at no charge.  If only needed temporarily they can be returned. If anyone, churches, schools, businesses or individuals have a need for one of these items please contact Lion Vernon Barker, Dir. ALERC, 205-640-6506 or e-mail vjbj@juno.com

Lions Club motto is “We Serve” and they also say “Where there is a need-there is a lion”.
