Pell City Lions Club disbands after 75 years

It is with great sadness that after 75 years of service to our city and community, the Pell City Lions Club announces the suspension of its charter and the disbanding of our club.

This action is necessary due to our club’s inability to attract and retain enough active members to fulfill our mission of serving others.

American culture has changed to where the younger generations value leisure time more and volunteer less with service clubs. Both parents in most families now have to work to support the family financially and the children stay so busy with after school activities that parents having time to volunteer is not part of the equation of life anymore in America.

The Pell City Lions Club most certainly had a “good run”. The club undertook many projects to help the community. The club participated in tornado relieve efforts, planted trees, sponsored diabetic children to go to “Camp Seale Harris” so they could learn how to cope with their disease. The club donated funds to help the equestrian program at the Alabama Institute for the Deaf And Blind. The club performed free vision screenings for our school kids and our elderly. The club helped those in need and those who “fell through the cracks” get eye care through Alabama Lions Sight and UAB. Those are just some of the services the Pell City Lions performed  during the last 15 years. The services and assistance provided to others for those first 60 years are impossible to list.

It is our sincere hope that one day in the future, an upcoming generation of Pell City citizens will see the need to carry on the work of the Lions Club and reactivate the charter and start anew. We hope that they will carry on the tradition of the 100’s of previous members of the Pell City Lions Club that preceded them for 75 years and uphold our motto – “We Serve”.
