Pell City Line Dancers hosted their 5th annual Dancing with Our Stars, this year benefitting the Pell City Police Foundation.
On Feb. 23, over 400 people gathered at Celebrations in Pell City to participate in the event. Between ticket sales, silent auction, and celebrity jail bail bonds, the event raised $18,189.70, and counting, thanks to continued t-shirt and CD sales.
Doris Munkus, of the Pell City Line Dancers, said they chose the Pell City Police Foundation because, “They (Pell City Police Department) participate every year and we know they have a foundation that needs support.”
Pell City Police Chief Paul Irwin stated that the money raised will be used toward much needed equipment.
Of the 14 performances, there were three crowned winners in both couples and group categories.
For the groups, the winners were:
●1st Place: Footloose Five-O: Pell City Police Department (Instructor Christy Slaughter, Chief Paul Irwin, Captain Josh Herren, Lieutenant Vince Warrington, Lieutenant Doug Carden) dancing to “Jailhouse Rock/King Creole” by Billy Swann
●2nd Place: The Dance Fevers: St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital (Kara Chandler, Lisa Nichols, Shiloh Swiney, Jimmy Vaughn, Richard Crocker, Arthur Baldridge) dancing to a Remix
●3rd Place: The Ice Breakers: (Instructor Leslie Day, Blair Goodgame, Craig Tumlin, Michelle Tumlin, Kimberly Gossett-Myers, Tracey Wilson, Eva Hildebrandt, Jay Turner) dancing to a Remix
For the couples, winners are:
●1st Place: Tami Blaudeau and Bill Ervin, dancing to “Briefcase Full of Blues” by The Blues Bros Soulman
●2nd Place: Leigh Ann Wilder and Jared Shiver, dancing to “That Power” by Justin Bieber FT. Will.i.am.
●3rd Place: Paul and Syndi Cobb, dancing to “Why Don’t We Just Dance” by Josh Turner
In addition to the top three winners of each group, there was a People’s Choice award won by the team who raised the most money, and a Mirror Ball Fun award, won by the team who was the audience favorite. Kingpen and Misdemeanors took home the People’s Choice award, while the hospital’s Dance Fevers reeled in the Mirror Ball Fun award.
Many other festivities accompanied the event, such as the celebrity jail bail bonds needed to get James McGowan and Serge Brazzollatto out of “jail,” and a silent auction. The proceeds of both were added to the funds. An intermission allowed the audience to join the dance floor and show off their moves while the judges gathered their thoughts to declare the winners.
