The Leeds Tree Commission took on a large task for their annual project.  They removed 10 of the Yoshino Cherry trees that bordered the Leeds Memorial Park’s walking track.  The cherry trees were planted in the 1990s and they had started to die and split.  Cherry trees have a life expectancy of 15 – 20 years.   

The Leeds Tree Commission replaced the trees with Princeton American Elm trees.  This elm is a fast growing upright deciduous shade tree that can reach a height of 30 – 40 feet.  The tree commission is pictured with one of the new elm trees.  The Leeds Tree Commission members are: Linda Miller (City Council Representative), Susan Carswell, Eddie Cook (Chairman), Sue Jones, and Antoinette Madison (Alabama Power Representative).
