Suspects arrested in stabbing death of Pell City man

One man has been charged with murder after a Pell City man died from multiple stab wounds Monday afternoon.

The victim, Billy Joe Saffold, 55, of Dry Creek Road in Pell City was stabbed multiple times, according to St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell. Saffold was pronounced dead at 3:56 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, in the emergency room at St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital. Saffold’s body has been sent to forensics for an official autopsy.

After an extensive investigation, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office arrested Castleberry, 53, of Dry Creek Road in Pell City, and charged him with murder. He is being held without bond in the St. Clair County Jail in Pell City.  

Charla Johnson, 45, also of Dry Creek Road in Pell City, was arrested on Wednesday night in connection with the case, according to St. Clair County Sheriff Terry Surles, and charged with murder.
