Moody pick up 17-6 win over John Carroll

The Moody Blue Devils scored in all three phases of the game to pick up their second win of the season with a 17 – 6 win over John Carroll Cavaliers on Homecoming. Moody improves to 2 – 3 (0 – 3) on the season.

Neither team go on the scoreboard in the first quarter, so we pick up the action in the second quarter with John Carroll punting the football away to the Blue Devils. Moody took over at their own 11-yard line. The drive started out with a bang thanks to a 53-yard run by Rashawd Claek. Two plays later Tykhi Wesley scored form 21-yards out. Piero Salazar’s extra point was good and Moody was up 7 – 0 with 7:27 left in the first half.
The Blue Devil defense comes up big once again causing a fumble and recovering the football in Cavalier territory. John Carroll’s defense half forcing a field goal try. Herman Mancilla’s 21-yard field goal was good and Moody led 10 – 0 at the half.
Moody got the ball to start the second half and started the drive with a bang. Rashad Clark broke free for a 28-yard run, down to the Cavs 39-yard line. Tack on a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the Cavs and Moody was in business at the John Carroll 24-yard line. The defense of John Carroll held tough and forced Moody to try a 22-yard field goal that was no good.
John Carroll started their first drive of the second had at their own 20-yard line. On the first play of the drive, defensive pressure from Ethan Jeff and Ethan Mills causes the football to pop in the air and land right into Aiden Calvert, who catches and carries it 22-yards to the end zone for a score. The extra point was good and Moody’s lead ballooned to 17 – 0 at the end of the third quarter.
The Cavaliers managed a score to start the fourth quarter to pull within 17 – 6. Sacks from Ethan Mills, Ethan Jeff and Joel McCormick kept the John Carroll offense behind the chains most of the night. Moody went on to get the Homecoming win over the Cavs 17 – 6.
Joel McCormick had an amazing night on defense with 11 tackles, two for loss, and three sacks. Mason Shockley also had a grand night with 11 tackles. Ethan Mills had 10 tackles, two for loss, and two sacks. Ethan Jeff added five tackles and a sack. Jordan Mason had 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Aiden Calvert also had five tackles and an interception return for a touchdown and Rashad Clark added five tackles and one interception to the stats.
Moody 2 – 3 (0-3) will hit the road for the next two weeks. They will travel to Woodlawn to play the Cornels tomorrow night. Next week the Blue Devils travel to Wenonah to take on the Dragons. Kick off for tomorrow night’s game at Woodlawn will be a 7 p.m
