- Leeds Back to School Bash 2017
Parents of school age children in Leeds City Schools, bring your kids out for the fun this Saturday, July 29 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Leeds Memorial Park for the first annual Back to School Bash at Leeds Memorial Park this Saturday, July 29 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. This is an exciting free event is designed for all school ages including Leeds Primary, Leeds Elementary, Leeds Middle and Leeds High School as everyone prepares for back to school. We would like to welcome David Thomas, the new General Manager of Zaxby’s in Moody. David is excited to bring new opportunities to Zaxby’s of Moody. The ‘Zaxby’s Zip Card’, where every eighth meal is free, is now available. Spirit Night is one of David’s favorite Zaxby’s events, which gives to the community directly by providing simple and fun fundraising. The Leeds Farmers Market will be open this week from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. They have had some customer request an extra hour for those who work and can’t get there in time so they are going to be open until 7 p.m. on a trial basis. They are also working on bring as much product as they can and are trying to get more vendors for shopping.
Leeds Arts Council will present the final performances of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory July 28, 29 and 30 at Leeds Theatre and Arts Center. Tickets at the door will be $15 for adults and $10 for a child up to 18. To get the special ticket price of children for $5, you must pay in advance. Six children have already found a GOLDEN TICKET in the lobby during intermission. Three more are just waiting to be found before the drawing on July 30 for the prize. Sessions Computers is now open in the Leeds Wal-Mart shopping Center. Their grand opening will be held this Saturday, July 29 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sessions will be giving away a 32” monitor and door prizes. Refreshments will also be served. Stop by to help them celebrate.
The Leeds River Campus of Eden Westside Baptist Church will host their fifth Sunday potluck lunch with Pastor Jacky Connell this Sunday, July 30 immediately following the 11 a.m. worship service. Please bring a dish and enjoy this fellowship time together.
Moody Kiwanis Club will meet at Noon on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Moody City Hall.
Flag Football registration at Moody City Hall is scheduled for Aug. 1 and Aug. 8 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Leeds Lions Club is scheduled to meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3 in the Leeds Masonic Lodge building.
The Leeds Masonic Lodge Community Breakfast is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5. Breakfast is free, but donations would be appreciated. All donations stay in the City of Leeds community involvement programs. Please contact T. V. Weaver for more information at (205) 699-6742.
Moody Lodge No. 592 is hosting an F. & A.M. of Alabama Spaghetti Fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 5 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for $5 per plate. All proceeds will benefit Howey Towery, a local resident, who is battling lung cancer. If you cannot make the dinner, any donations are appreciated. Moody Soccer Club registration will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5 and Aug. 12 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Moody City Hall.
Jim Langley is the Leeds Arts Council’s featured artist in August. The public is invited to his opening reception and one-man show on Sunday, Aug. 6 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Admission is free. The show will feature the art and storytelling of former Leeds resident, Jim Langley. Many of his paintings depict scenes and personalities from the Leeds and Birmingham area including the Alabama Theater; area churches, businesses, historic buildings, and houses; and personalities such as Charles Barkley and Harry the Hat. Proceeds from sales and donations will benefit the Leeds Art Council as well as Day Camp Scholarships for disadvantaged children at YMCA Camp Hargis. For more information, please call (205) 699-1892.
