The theft occurred between 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, when the park was full of people. The vehicle was parked near the Pell City Splash Pad, Pell City Police Chief Paul Irwin Jr. said
“It was a crime of opportunity,” Irwin said. “It took a lot of guts to do that in broad daylight.”
Irwin was adamant in warning people not to leave anything of value visible inside their vehicles.
The vehicle break-in occurred in the midday while a police officer was at the park.
“The victim had her wallet with her and did not have any valuables inside her purse,” Irwin said. “The victim’s purse was found thrown out along the wooded area near the road leaving the park.”
Irwin requested that if anyone saw anything or has information regarding the vehicle break-in and theft on Saturday (June 10) at Lakeside Park to contact the Pell City Police Department at (205) 884-3334.
