The Pell City Senior Center's new hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., instead of at 3p.m as before. Lunch is available those days at 11:00 a.m. for a donation of $2. Also, the Center, located at 801 Comer Ave., is open one Saturday a month for dances from 5-7 p.m.

The Pell City Senior Center, has now expanded its hours to accommodate the needs of the community. The Center already averages more than 50 daily attendees, and the group is very active.

“In short, a poll of the patrons showed a significant interest in lengthening the times that the Center is open with programming,” said Pell City City Manager Brian Muenger. “Although our meal service remains a focal point, we are trying to broaden the appeal of the Center beyond that single aspect.”

Kristin Copeland, the Senior Center Director, has already added some activities and has several other new ones planned.

“My heart and passion are in working with seniors,” Said Copeland. “They still have so much to offer, and they also deserve the best life has to offer. That includes being happy, social and involved.”

After doing an another interest poll among attendees, she is hoping to add a writing group, a book club, and even a monthly newsletter. That newsletter would invite regular attendees to write for it and would possibly highlight some of their seniors, telling their stories.

“We are seeing more participation in the Center overall, and the modified operating hours will allow us to accommodate (this),” stated Muenger.

The new hours of operation went in effect on June 1, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
