- Skylar Patterson and Predestined was one of the many variety of musical acts that performed at the 18th annual Pell City Hometown Block Party on Friday, June 2.
The Pell City Chamber of Commerce 18th Annual Hometown Block Party brought out big crowds to downtown Pell City on June 2.
“I don’t have an attendance estimate yet but I would say it exceeded last year’s from the number of people I saw,” Larry Daugherty, Pell City Chamber of Commerce Board president, stated. “I thought the variety of food, entertainment, and new and different vendors was awesome.”
This year, the block party had three main stages of musical entertainment, along with an additional stage of local youth talent from Jamison Taylor’s School of Music. Diverse genres of music could be heard from acts such as Diedra the Alabama Blues Queen, The Uptown Rounders, Skylar Patterson and Predestined, local act The Wingnuts, Burning Bridges, and the big headliner, Jamie Lynn Spears.
Bringing an internationally recognized headlining act was something new for the Pell City Block Party this year. Pell City Chamber of Commerce Director Kelsey Bain was very thankful for the many sponsors that helped make the Block Party a success.
“The Block Party has exceeded my expectations. Everyone has worked with me so well. I am very thankful for all of our sponsors,” Bain said.
A variety of vendors, ranging from food to hand-carved teak furniture, dotted the streets of downtown drawing crowds from around St. Clair County. Rides and inflatables were available for children, staying busy throughout the evening.
“Seeing all of these happy faces walking around,” Bain said. “I love it!”
Headlining act Jamie Lynn Spears played on the main stage on Cogswell Avenue at 9 pm. The area in front of the stage was sectioned off for VIP admittance. Attendees could purchase VIP access for five dollars. Spears took time between songs to sign autographs for the crowd. At various times the audience would sing along as she pointed the microphone into the crowd. After the show Spears took time for more autographs and photos with fans.
“Seems like y’all have a great hometown,” Spears told the crowd from the stage. “It’s a place you want to be.”
The Pell City Chamber of Commerce is planning for additional upcoming events, including Blues and BBQ scheduled for August 19. For more information on being a sponsor or a vendor for upcoming events, or becoming a Chamber of Commerce member, contact (205) 338-3377.
