Every month, Eden Elementary School in Pell City awards its Kids with Character, students who have demonstrated that month’s essential value—or “character word”— through their behavior.
The word for March was forgiveness.
Students were given certificates stating they had “been caught demonstrating Forgiveness by the Teachers & Staff of Eden Elementary School,” followed by the date and Principal Laurie Funderburg’s signature.
The students “caught” were Cody Tyler, Taylor Callahan, Cole Bryant, Christian Pinson, Brooklyn King, Aaron Massey, Harper Perry, Perry Best, Triston Moore, Nariah Cole, Caleb Howard, Kameron Preuss, Aidon Luna, Nevaeh Morningstar, Hunter Adkins, Isaac Davison, Jacob Saltsman and Makala Bowman.
“We love to have students recognized,” said Funderburg.
Each character word is defined to the students in terms of how it is demonstrated. For example, forgiveness was explained as “deciding that some one who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay.”
This teaches students behaviors to emulate—as well as recognize in others.
April’s character word is humility, explained as “putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve.”
This next Kids with Character will run in the paper on April 27 in the monthly Education Section.
