The Pell City Kiwanis Club did even more than usual to honor its community for last Thursday’s meeting and luncheon at the Civic Center when it presentations to both the Salvation Army and Teacher of the Month.

A $3,100 check was donated to the Salvation Army, thanks to the club’s bell ringing efforts in front of Kmart this past holiday season.

Pell City Kiwanis Bell Ringer Chairman Edwin Ray presented the check to Salvation Army Captain Kathy Parker and Major Bob Parker, greater Birmingham area commander for the Salvation Army. Kiwanis Club President Jonathan Brogdon was also on hand.

Also of note, Sanda Stone Haynes, fifth-grade math teacher at Williams Intermediate School, was named Kiwanis Teacher of the Month for February. The teaching veteran, now in her 30th year as an educator, was presented a special award certificate as well as a $100 check to use for her classroom.

Kiwanis Teacher of the Month Chairman David Jackson and Principal Holly Costello of Williams Intermediate School were both present for the event to show their support. The mission of the Kiwanis Club is to serve by giving back to the community.
