A local salon is once again treating cancer patients and survivors to a day of primping and pampering. They ask for only one thing in return—a smile.
Stella Brook Salon, located off Cogswell Avenue in downtown Pell City, will be hosting the fifth annual Styles Make Smiles next Friday, Feb. 10— in anticipation of Valentine’s Day—from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“When we first started this, the idea was to do it on a day where they’ll get made over, feel good and want to go out to dinner or something for the holiday,” said Lauren Isbell, stylist at Stella Brook Salon. “I’m excited—it’s going to be so good this time. It just keeps getting bigger every year.”
Twenty or more women will be treated to facials, hair styling, massages, nail care, and make-up. Wigs, hats, turbans, scarves, eye lashes, eye brows and more will be available as well in order to provide unique looks styled to a participant’s particular needs. Gift bags and food will also be provided.
Styles Make Smiles wouldn’t be possible without the multiple area sponsors behind the event — including Lakeside Hospice, a main contributor to the organization process as well.
“My grandmother is a cancer survivor, and my aunt works at Lakeside Hospice. We wanted to do something to give back,” said Isbell. “It makes you feel really good to be able to help.”
The event does more than give makeovers to women who have survived or are battling cancer—it also offers a chance for them to have a fun, relaxing day with others who are going through the same situation.
“It just makes you very thankful for what you have and for your health,” said Isbell. “They’ll come in here feeling horrible and walk out feeling amazing. That’s the best thing.”
