- The Heart of Pell City members review the agenda at their first monthly meeting of the new year.
The Heart of Pell City Downtown Revitalization had its first monthly meeting of the new year last Thursday to discuss upcoming events and projects, as well as lessons learned.
“Last year, we were learning,” Urainah Glidewell, The Heart of Pell City president, said. “But this year we know a little more what we’re doing, so we’ll be able to be more effective in the community.”
While only in its second year, The Heart of Pell City, a nonprofit, has accomplished a lot in the community, including most recently the Cogswell Chalkboard and Christmas on the Cog.
“I’m really proud of everything that we did in 2016,” Glidewell said. “We want to just build on that for 2017 and just make everything better this year. We have the past year’s experiences to build upon.”
Events for the upcoming year will include the return of several favorites from 2016, such as the Pell City Historic Walking Tour in April and Avondale Mills Day in October. New endeavors include a partnership with the Pell City Chamber of Commerce to host the Block Party in June, and the Cogswell Avenue Cleanup and Beautification Project is ongoing.
“We just want to bring more people in and give them something to do in downtown Pell City,” Glidewell said. “It’s about coming together to make the Pell City community better.”
The Heart of Pell City meets next on Feb. 1 at 8:30 a.m. at The Old Grey Barn.
