When you walk into a library, you expect to see books, magazines, books on tape and more. You probably don’t expect to see ukuleles — but that’s what you’ll find at the Odenville Library.
The Odenville Ukulele Library Club was created in March of 2015, and is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome to join the club and explore their talents on the ukulele in a social and learning environment.
“Once a month, uke club members gather at the Odenville Library,” Odenville Librarian Betty Corley said. “They whip out ukuleles, strumming and singing to tunes like ‘Heart and Soul’ and ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling.’ It’s social and positive and kind of relaxing to sing.”
Three new ukuleles have joined the club and are waiting to be used. Those instruments were generously donated by Dolores Archer Traylor of Archer Guitar School, located in the Birmingham/St. Clair area.
The ukulele is a great tool to spark creativity and is easy to learn how to play. Having access to the instruments through the club will give children and adults a hands-on opportunity to practice positive self-expression and have fun.
The Odenville Ukulele Library Club meets at the library on the first Friday and third Wednesday of the month. The intermediate club meets at 9:30 a.m., and the beginner club meets at 11 a.m. on that Friday. At the Wednesday classes, the beginner club meets at 4 p.m.
Attendees are welcomes to bring their own ukulele or to use one of the three that were donated.
Class size and instruments are limited, so register today by calling Dolores Traylor at (205) 629-6815, or via email at L59@windstream.net. Include your contact information, and if you have your own ukulele or will need to borrow one.
