Springville Happenings: Record Crowds and Road Closings

The Springville Christmas in the Country Parade saw record crowds Saturday, Dec. 10 and lasted an hour long. The theme this year was “Santa’s Toyland.”
Congratulations to Springville High’s Josie McGuire for winning first place in the 200-meter freestyle at the high school state swim meet. She also placed third in the 500-meter.
The Springville Fire Department will be selling smoked hams and turkeys for the Christmas Holidays. Whole turkeys or a turkey breasts are $45, Whole bone-in ham $60, and Half a ham $40. To order, please call the station at (205) 467-2703. They will be prepared and ready for pick-up on Thursday, Dec. 22 after 3 p.m.

“The Gift” Live Nativity and Christmas Celebration at Spring Valley Baptist Church will be held Friday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. For information call (205) 467-2285.
Argo Christian Fellowship is hosting “Make a Memory for Missions” as a fundraiser to support their mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Dec. 18-21, $10. Includes food, crafts, Santa and a bus tour of Christmas Lights. Contact (205) 467-7062.
The Springville Preservation Society will be selling Christmas Cards featuring the historical artwork of resident, Clay Allison from his “Paint the Town” series. All proceeds benefit the Springville Historical Society. The cards include envelopes and can be previewed on the Springville Preservation Society’s Facebook page at facebook.com/springvillepreservation.
Storytime at Springville Library are Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and includes a story, craft and snacks.
The Sportsman Lake Club will host family Turkey Shoots Dec. 17. Children Welcome. Starts at 8 a.m.
From the St Clair County EMA: Road Closure at Muckleroy Creek Bridge. AL State Hwy 11 from Whitney Junction/AL Hwy 231 to State Route 23, Springville to close to thru traffic on Monday, Dec. 12 for bridge work. Alternate Route: I-59. Local traffic can utilize Huff Lane to Crawford Cove to State Rd 23 and also Pinedale Rd to 23. Timeline: More than one year. This notice is provided from the Alabama Department of Transportation.
The SHS Band is holding The Christmas Polar Express Pancake Fundraiser at First UMC of Springville, Saturday, Dec. 17 from 9 – 11a.m.. Cost is $5 per person, includes pancakes, side and drink. Crafts, live music and bake sale will also be available for purchase at the event.

The Springville Civil Air Patrol meets every Tuesday from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory. The age requirement is 12-18 years of age and adults may also join as senior members. Cadets learn leadership skills, aerospace, character development, as well as team work. Cadets also learn piloting skills.
