Odenville Trick or Treat

Hello, readers! I’m back with this week’s edition of “What’s Up in Odenville.”

There were record amounts of Fall Festivals over the past week, so many that on Halloween, when children typically dress up, most folks were surprised that they had very few trick or treaters. It would seem the old days of door to door begging are a thing of the past. Halloween has now become a week long event with kids exhausted by the time designated day arrives. That is not so for adults. They dress up and party like rockstars!

Let’s get to the news…

OYAA Basketball registration will be held November 8th and 10th from 6-7:30 p.m. and Nov. 5 and 12 from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $105. For more information, contact jdcody1023@gamil.com.

Basketball Cheer registration will be held November 8th and 10th from 6-7:30. Cost $115.

In other park news, OYAA President Marlon Mashburn has a lot to cheer about.

All three football teams made it to the play-offs, freshman, sophomore and junior levels. Great job, guys!

The OYAA Odenville Saints will compete in the Central Youth Cheerleading Competition this Saturday Nov. 6 at the CEPA Building in Pell City. This is the 3rd Annual Competition held in Pell City.

The Saints will compete against Clay, Eastside (Anniston), Fultondale, Gardendale, Moody, Pell City and Springville.

The Competition will start with a Junior Division, which is grade K through third, at 2 p.m. Followed by the Senior Division, which is fourth through sixth grades, and will begin around 5 p.m.

Admission is $10 a person, and children age four and under are free. There will be concessions, t-shirts and flowers available for purchase. Good luck Ladies!

The Christmas Parade has been scheduled for Tuesday December 5, and the theme this year will be “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. Every year the parade gets longer and the floats more creative. The entry fee to participate is $5 per parade participant, excluding first responders. Santa will be making his return also. I want to see some over-the-top floats this year. Awards will be given for the top three. The City of Odenville will also host a Santa meet and greet immediately after the parade. Stop by City Hall and enjoy refreshments and take a pic with Santa!

The Kurly Q’s Square Dance Club will be hosting The Warblers on Friday, Dec. 9 at OMS Purser-Ray Hall from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are $12 per person. The Warblers are a male choral group organized in 1929 at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham. They will be performing traditional songs of long ago and also Christmas music. For additional information/tickets call (205) 525-5128, (205) 640-8939 or (205) 467-6686.
