It was another tough night for the Moody Blue Devils as they suffered their third straight loss. The Woodlawn Colonels handed the Blue Devils a 19 – 15 homecoming loss. Moody will now prepare to face a very tough Wenonah Dragon team tomorrow night at home in region play.

It wasn’t the offense that got going first in this region game, but the defense. The Woodlawn defense, facing third down in their own territory, Moody quarterback, Loui Goff ‘s screen pass intended for Gabe Webb was picked off and returned 40 yards for a touchdown. The extra point failed, but the Colonels led 6 – 0 with 2:03 left in the quarter.

Kyle Ivy set the Blue Devil offense up in great field position with a 45 yard return on the ensuing kickoff. Moody was set up at the Woodlawn 45 yard line. Goff made up for the interception with a 45 yard touchdown pass to Ivy. The extra point was good and Moody took a 7 – 6 lead with 1:43 left in the quarter.

The Moody Defense got in on the scoring action on Woodlawn’s next possession thanks to Ethan Jeff’s sack of the Colonels quarter back in the end zone for a safety. This put the Blue Devils up 9 – 6 with 1:11 left in the quarter.

Moody got the free kick after the safety and was set up at their own 44 yard line. Two plays later, Gabe Webb broke free for a 37 yard run, setting Moody up first and goal at the Woodlawn 4. Webb plunged into the end zone for the score two plays later. The extra point was good and Moody was off and running up 15 – 6 after the first quarter.

The two teams went back and forth exchanging possessions until late in the second quarter. The ball was at the Moody 33 yard line with 2 seconds left in the half. The Colonels heave up the Hail Mary and came away with the football in the end zone for the score. The extra point failed, but Woodlawn only trailed by 3 points 15 – 12 at half time.

The only other score in the game came late in the third quarter. A busted play in the backfield resulted in a 64 yard run play that set Woodlawn up 1st and goal at the Moody 2 yard line. The Colonels scored 3 plays later. The extra point was good and Woodlawn took the lead 19 – 15 to end the third quarter.

Just like last week at John Carroll, the Blue Devil offense could not get going to get the lead back. Woodlawn controlled the clock in the fourth quarter and held on for the 19 – 15 win.

Moody was led by Gabe Webb’s 26 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown. The defense was led by Ethan Mills with 15 tackles and Ethan Jeff, who had nine tackles, two sacks and a safety.

Moody falls to 2 – 4 (1 – 2) and will face Wenonah at home tomorrow night before another two game road trip, which includes a trip to rival St. Clair next week.
