The Moody Blue Devils bounced back in a big way from last week’s loss to pick up a big region win at home over Shelby County 27 – 20. The win improves Moody’s record to 2 – 1 (1 – 1).

At Bill Morris Stadium in Moody, the Blue Devils could not have started their home game with Shelby County any better than they did last Friday night. The game started with Kyle Ivy taking the opening kickoff 80 yards to the house. The extra point was good and the Devils were up 7 – 0 just 19 seconds into the game.

Shelby County answered back on their first possession of the game. The Wildcats mounted a 15-play 65-yard drive that featured power running from their running back Michael Norwood. He finished the drive off with a two-yard touchdown plunge. The extra point failed, but the Cats were within one point, trailing 7 – 6.

Moody’s power back and quarterback Loui Goff got the offense going for the Blue Devils. Webb had five carries for 19 yards on the drive and Goff was two for two for 47 yards. Webb closed out the drive with a six-yard touchdown with eight ticks on the clock. The extra point was good and the Devils led 14 – 6 after the first quarter.

The Wildcats started the second quarter facing second and six from their own 29 yard line. The Cats put together another long double-digit play drive that ended with a score. A 14 yard touchdown pass pulled the Cats within 14 -12. The extra point was no good.

The Blue Devils ended the first half the same way they started the game, and that’s with a big scoring play. With just eight seconds left, Goff stepped back in the pocket and launched a beautiful fade throw to the back corner of the end zone to Kyle Ivy, completing a 29-yard touchdown. The extra point was good and Moody carried a ton of momentum into the locker room up 21 – 12 at halftime.

That scored stood through the third quarter and through most of the fourth quarter. The Moody defense bent, but did not break, the majority of the night as the Wildcats put together long, time consuming drives all night. It was that consistent toughness on defense that came up with the biggest defensive play of the game. Thanks to pressure from Ethan Jeff, the Wildcats quarterback forced a pass that was picked off by Brady Price for the Blue Devils. Moody took over at their own 48. This drive was all about Gabe Webb as he carried the ball seven times for 52 yards and his second touchdown of the night. The extra point was good and Moody was moving along comfortably, up 27 – 12.

The Wildcats got a late score with a 50-yard touchdown pass with 49 seconds left. The two point try was good and the Cats now only trailed 27 – 20. The onside kick attempted by the Cats was recovered by D.J. Johnson for the Blue Devils.

Moody took over and after a few kneel downs by Goff, the Devils came away with a huge 27 – 20 win.

Loui Goff and Gabe Webb had huge games to lead the Blue Devils offensive attack. Goff had his best passing night of the season so far. He was 11 of 16 for 132 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown pass was to Kyle Ivy. Kaleb Sciro and Gabe Webb also had receptions. Webb grinded out 138 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns.

With the win, Moody improves to 2 – 1 (1 – 1) on the season. The Devils take to the road for their next two games. Tomorrow night they will travel to Pleasant Grove to take on the Spartans in another region game. Next week, they will travel over to Lakeshore to take on the John Caroll Cavaliers. Kickoff for tomorrow night game at Pleasant Grove will be at 7 p.m.
