Breakfast for the Brave

Back to school is right around the corner so it’s time to shop for school clothes and supplies. This year’s sales tax holiday weekend begins Friday, August 5 and ends Sunday, August 7, which gives you the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers and clothing, free of state sales or use tax.

The first day of school for Leeds and Moody students will be August 10. Leeds Outreach is blessing 118 kids with school supplies and fees this year, which is a record number. They are still in desperate need of copy paper. Most grades request multiple reams and are short 159 reams. Please contact Leeds Outreach if you are able to help at (205) 699-7291 or leedswelfare@yahoo.com.

Crossroads Christian School’s second used book sale of the summer will be held this Saturday, July 30 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. All materials will be sorted by grade from preschool through grade six, then by subject from grades 7-12 and includes reading books, teacher resource materials, multi-level and games. Buyers, bring cash and coin – this event is open to anyone who wants to sell and buy. For more information, please visit their Facebook page.

Let’s light up Leeds and Moody in blue through the end of August to show support to our officers working at night. Stop by Daylight Donuts for a free blue light bulb at 7480 Parkway Drive in Leeds – no purchase necessary. Please spread the word to your family and friends and let’s light up Leeds and Moody in blue!

Breakfast for the Brave was served last Thursday at Leeds River Campus. Over 30 first responders enjoyed a great breakfast and Brother Scotty Pinson had a special prayer for safety, especially with the recent attacks across our nation. Brother Scotty also shared that the children at Eden Westside Baptist Church were praying for each of them.

Leeds United Methodist Church will have a Rummage and Bake Sale on Saturday, July 30 from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. to benefit Leeds Backpack Buddies in the Leeds Elementary and new Primary Schools. Backpack Buddies is a 501C3 organization and 100 percent of the money goes to purchase food and hygiene products for our kids.

Bill Barrow is the Leeds Arts Council’s featured artist in August. The public is invited to the opening reception on Sunday, July 31 from 1 – 3:30 p.m. to view his delightful artwork.
