This weekend, thousands are expected to head to the Pell City Sports Complex for the Bulls on the Lake Rodeo. This is the second year for the event, which is hosted by Pell City Fire and Rescue. Proceeds from the rodeo, scheduled for this Saturday, July 23 at 8 p.m., will support efforts by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to improve lives in the area.
The show itself is put on by Triple H Bucking Bulls and Rodeo Company, and the event raised $4,000 last year for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. That goal is something that could be topped this year, according to event organizers.
Adam Manning expects over 3,000 people to attend this year’s event. Since graduating Pell City High School, Manning has served his hometown for 17 years. But he also has a nine-year career as a bullfighter. That is what helped conceptualize the event and make it what it — incredibly popular, in only its second year.
The event was in part Manning’s idea, serving as the department sought an annual fundraiser for one of its major causes. According to Manning, fire departments across America support MDA, so Pell City’s was looking for a way they could do their part, while showing the community a fun time.
Triple H owner Mark Hale is based in the area and puts on rodeos throughout the Southeast. At last year’s event, 25 riders will buck 30 bulls and 12 barrel racers performed. This year is expected to only be bigger and better.
The fire department has added even more bleachers for the crowds, several food vendors and created a kids area, with inflatable bounce houses and more.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids 6-12 years old at the gate. Children five years and under are free. For more information on the event, find it on Facebook.
