Randolph County deputy shot, suspect dead following hostage situation

[Randolph County, Ala.] — Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are investigating a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy-involved shooting at the request of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the Randolph County District Attorney. The incident began as a domestic situation with an armed subject. The situation escalated when the subject shot a Randolph County Deputy. The standoff that began around 12 p.m. today, July 9, ended with the suspect dying from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Deputy is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Randolph County District Attorney’s office. Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.
