The Pell City School System received the donation of an automated external defibrillator (AED) from the Lord Wedgewood Charity, through a graduate of Pell City High School. Rachel Baribeau presented the AED yesterday at the Board of Education Central Office.

Lord Wedgewood recently hosted a charity golf tournament, May 15-16 and the winner of the tournament had the opportunity to donate the AEB to the organization of their choice. Rachel Baribeau’s team won and the team choose who would receive the donated AED. Baribeau is an alumni of Pell City High School and chose to present the AED to the Pell City School System.

The mission of Lord Wedgewood Charity is to fight sudden cardiac arrest, which claims more than 250,000 lives per year and to raise awareness about the need for public access defibrillation in the community. To raise awareness of the importance of pre screening of young athletes to help prevent harm or injury.

They work to raise funds in order to organize and participate in pre screenings of young athletes and place AEDs in schools and community gathering places. The organization also strives to make public access defibrillation and pre screening of young athletes the standard, not the exception, and to help drastically reduce the number of cardiac-related deaths in young athletes in the coming years.
