Arrest made in Cropwell bank robbery

Wednesday, May 18, the Pell City Police Department announced it had made an arrest in the May 13 robbery of the Union State Bank Cropwell Branch.

Michael Lee Daniel, 61 of Moody, is currently being held in the St. Clair County jail with a $100,000 bond.

During the initial response to the robbery on Friday, police and sheriff’s deputies from throughout the area responded to assist Pell City Police.

Pell City Police Chief Greg Turley thanked the FBI and their video enhancement unit, the U.S. Marshall’s Service, the St. Clair County and Jefferson County sheriff’s departments, the Moody Police Department and the citizens that sent in tips to help in locating and arresting this suspect. 

According to the PCPD, Union State Bank in Cropwell was robbed around 1:30 p.m. on May 13. Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect fled the scene, and authorities began a search for a teal green Ford Ranger.
