Ed joined the Springville team after attending Auburn University’s School of Pharmacy. The people he has served over his career are one of the things he will miss the most about working at Payless.

“I like to help people, that’s why I got in this business in the beginning,” Warren said. “The patients I help here are really good people. The folks in this town are really good people and they’ve been great to work with.”

As Ed retires, he leaves big shoes to fill. Fortunately, when the time came to find another pharmacist, Payless Drugs’ owner Boyd Ennis knew the person for the job.

Kandi Barnes has been working at the Morris location of Payless Drugs since July of 2015. She said that when Boyd called her, she felt like Springville was the perfect opportunity for her and was thrilled to make the move. Kandi joined the Payless team after working in corporate pharmacies for years.

“I really wanted to get into the independent pharmacy world,” Barnes said. “I love the people aspect of pharmacy and I wanted to find a place that allowed me to embrace that.”

Kandi found that in Payless Drugs. Patients come first for the pharmacists and customer service is something the whole staff strives for on a daily basis. Counseling and getting to know patients personally is a priority for everyone on staff at Payless.

“I love being able to talk to my patients about their medications, and I love the relationships I build with them as their pharmacist,” Barnes said. “Everyone here is focused on patient care and I can already tell I’ll love it here.”

As far as following in Ed’s footsteps go, Kandi is excited for the opportunity to cultivate the same legacy that he enjoyed in Springville.

“I have heard a lot of great things about Ed and know that he is very beloved here,” Barnes said. “He’s been here a long time and I am excited to settle into that role, I really love this community.”

Kandi is excited to start the transition of making Springville her home. She is already involved in the community through church and friends and is looking forward to becoming a permanent fixture in the community.

“I can’t wait to become more involved and get to know my patients more,” Barnes said. “I am excited to be in Springville and so looking forward to serving our community.”
