Vulcan Eejits

Whether you favor the soulful ballad or the lively jig, you are sure to enjoy you afternoon when the Pell City Public Library welcomes the Celtic band, The Vulcan Eejits on Wednesday, March 16 at noon! This trio boasts a mix of vocals and instrumentals in its repertoire, featuring the fiddle, flute, guitar, boujouki and vocals.

Expect to hear your favorite Scottish and Irish reels, ballads, slides, and folk songs, just in time for the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Jil Chambless brings her talent as vocalist, flutist, and piper to the trio. She is joined by the talented Kevin Nicholson at the fiddle, and the equally talented Dan Vogt on guitar, boujouki, and vocals.

Jil Chambless is recognized as one of the best American vocalists and flutists on the Celtic circuit. Jil made her introduction into Celtic music in 1989 when she joined Henri’s Notions of Tuscaloosa, the longest performing Celtic Band in the Southeastern United States. She released her first solo CD entitled, The Ladies Go Dancing, in 2009, but she has also appeared as a guest artist with other musicians’ projects. From her beautiful ballads to her lively jigs, Chambless delivers a first-rate performance certain to bring tears and smiles to her audience. Originally from Montgomery, she now resides in Tuscaloosa.

Kevin Nicholson, a Birmingham native plays the fiddle for the trio. During the 1990’s he played with the Irish band, Red Hill. He currently plays with the Irish Pub Band, Jasper Coal out of Birmingham, and with the touring Indy-rock band, Delicate Cutters.

Dan Vogt, a long-time rocker, who plays in many Tuscaloosa-based rock bands, became interested in playing acoustic Celtic-style guitar several years ago. He plays acoustic guitar, bouzouki, and performs vocals with the trio.

The concert scheduled for Wednesday, March 16 at noon is part of the library’s ongoing Wild & Wonderful Wednesday series. The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served afterwards. For more information, contact the library staff at (205) 884-1015.
