For Ashton Coker’s eleventh birthday, she wanted to go to Graceland. Her parents, Michael and Stacy, took the young Elvis fan to Memphis.
On the way home, Ashton continued to enthuse about her love of all things Elvis. Michael told his daughter that he had a friend from high school, David Lee, who was an Elvis impersonator. Ashton was thrilled at the prospect of seeing an impersonator show live, so Michael and Stacy got in touch with David, who told them that he had an upcoming show in Lincoln, and the Coker family made plans to attend.
“We went to his show and it was fantastic,” Stacy said. “We’ve been going to his shows ever since.”
Since then, the Coker family has become close with David and has even traveled with him when they can, going as far as Canada for him to compete in competitions.
David Lee was named by Elvis Presley Enterprise the 2015 Ultimate Elvis. This makes David a two-time World Champion, since he is also the 2004 World Champion International Images of the King, 2004 People’s Choice, and the Canadian Grand Champion.
Seeing him perform live throughout the years is what inspired them to have David perform as a fundraiser for the Ragland High School band.
“He is absolutely amazing,” Stacy said. “It’s always an incredible show and so much fun. It goes to support a great cause, so we invite everyone to come out and enjoy the show.”
The Ragland High School Marching Band will host David Lee as Elvis March 12th in their 3rd Annual Fundraising Concert. The doors open at 6 p.m.; with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Reserved seats are $20, general $15. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Stacy at (205) 405-6495.
