Huntingdon

Meet Brittany Williams-Hardin: Tailored classes have allowed her to further her career

Brittany needed a customized education. She needed a way to further her education while maintaining 40 hours a week at Northside Medical as a medical assistant. Huntingdon gave her what she needed with its Evening Bachelors Program.

“I can keep my job, still work full time and then drive over the interstate to the Pell City campus and get to class.” She said. “That was a deciding factor in going back to school.”

Brittany is majoring in Business Management and plans on getting her master’s degree in Healthcare Management.

“I want to continue to grow in my career,” Brittany said. “Having a customized education was a key part in that plan.”

Brittany chose Business Management because of the broadness of the degree. Having a business degree does not limit her to a particular field and allows her to have unlimited options in the future.

Brittany waited to go back to school because she wanted to find a job in a field that she loved and then pursue an education in that area.

“I think education is very important,” Brittany said. “I was able to work in healthcare for a long period of time and that helped me figure out what I want to do in the future.”

Brittany’s future will commence very shortly. She will graduate Huntingdon with a bachelor’s degree in May.

“I now know that I love this field and that I want to continue down this path,’ Brittany said. “Huntingdon has allowed me to do that, while keeping my job and having time to live my life.”

Meet Amanda Garcia: Full time student, mother, and recently promoted employee

For Amanda, the decision to go back to school hinged on finding a program that fit into her busy schedule. She wanted to avoid online classes, but still maintain her full-time job and have time to be a mother.

“I started looking for a program that let me take classes after work,” Amanda said. “I wanted a degree, but I couldn’t quit my job to get it.”

Amanda found Huntingdon in 2014 and decided that the program’s schedule aligned perfectly with hers. She plans on graduating with her bachelor’s in August.

“Huntingdon has the best schedule,” Amanda said. “I take classes once a week and I finish each class in five weeks.”

Amanda’s experience with classmates and instructors has been positive throughout her two years at Huntingdon. The biggest benefit of the instructors is their understanding nature towards the student’s schedules.

“Most of us are parents and have busy lives, and the instructors get that,” Amanda said. “They are always available to us and are there to help us with any questions we may have. I have been lucky to have really great teachers at Huntingdon.”

Amanda is majoring in Business Management and has already experienced the benefits of having a higher education. She was promoted to Production Planner last year at her job and isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon.

“I know I will have even more opportunities in my career with a bachelor’s degree,” she said. “The desire to finish my classes and explore those options is what inspires me every day.”

Meet Taylor Prewett: How a degree through Huntingdon is leading him to a bright future

For Taylor, Huntingdon is helping him reach an even bigger dream.

During his time at Huntingdon, Taylor worked at St. Vincent’s in the orthopedic operating room. The hands-on experience has made him realize he wants to pursue a career in podiatry. Taylor plans on looking into graduate school in the near future.

While his degree in Healthcare Management is not clinical in nature, Taylor believes that his knowledge has benefitted him in a unique way.

“Knowing the legalities behind the medical industry is something that I think has a lot of value,” Taylor said. “You bring something extra to the game when you know the business side of it.”

Healthcare ethics are a big part of any job in the medical field, and having the understanding he does, Taylor is confident future employers will recognize the benefit his Huntingdon degree gives him.

Taylor graduated in December and is now fully focused on his future. Huntingdon gave him the foundation necessary to build his career on.

“When I begin to apply for grad schools, I will have a bachelor’s degree and work experience,” Taylor said. “This degree helps me stand out from other applicants.”
