O.D. Duran Jr. High School Archery team competed in the 2016 Regional Archery Tournament hosted by Pell City High School last week. Duran North had seven out of 14 shooters make the top 20 in the middle school rankings, out of 75 competitors.

There were a total of 494 competitors for this year’s Regional tournament, with seven middle schools represented.

Overall, the team’s ranking was fourth place, scoring a total of 3052 points. That score means the team met a qualifying score to receive an invitation to the state level archery tournament in April.

In the tournament’s 3D Archery Challenge, Rebecca Byars took first place, Hunter Bannister took second place, and Micaela Godoy took third place in the middle school division.

Coach Lee Austin is appreciative of the faculty and staff from the Pell City School System, parents and teachers for their support of the young team. Austin said she could not be more proud of her archers and she looks forward to the team’s future.
