LEEDS – James Ollie McCoy, 86, of Leeds, AL went to be with the Lord peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 14, 2015 at his home. He was a resident of Somerby Independent Living, where he had many friends.

Mr. McCoy was born on August 9, 1929 in Birmingham, AL to James Perry and Vida S. McCoy. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He spent his career in the road construction and building industry. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a Master Mason and Shriner. After his retirement, he found his passion in cooking and helping in the kitchen at the Leeds First United Methodist Church, where he was a member. He was famous for “Pappy’s Pound Cakes”. His sense of humor and zest for life was loved by all.

He is survived by one daughter, Jamie McWilliams and her husband Allen; a grandson, Alex; niece, Phylis (Bob) Baker; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. McCoy is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Edna, and one brother, Duke McCoy.

The funeral service was held February 17, 2016 in the Chapel at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, AL. Graveside service followed at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
