Pell City Chamber Events

The Greater Pell City Chamber of Commerce is expanding its community event catalogue for 2016, and the organization is opening its doors to welcome those who wold like to assist. Among those events are two high-profile additions to Pell City scheduled for April – the Downtown Historic Walking Tours and the Alabama Student Anglers Bass Fishing Association (ASABFA).

The Walking Tours are scheduled through the Alabama Department of Tourism and will lead groups along and around Cogswell Avenue to immerse participants in the architecture, culture, history and commerce of the area. According to Executive Director Lisa Gaither, the Chamber is pursuing volunteers from the community to both lead the tours and serve as storytelling actors at different stops. The group The Heart of Pell City Downtown is already involved with this project, and Beth Hoyle Waggonner said last month that owners of downtown businesses would be throwing their full support behind the effort.

More than 1,600 people participated in the 2015 April Walking Tours in 27 towns across the state. Tours are scheduled in Pell City for every Saturday in April.

“These tours are an excellent way for towns and communities of any size to be involved in a state-wide tourism campaign,” said Brian Jones with the Alabama Tourism Department.

Alongside the tours, April 8-9 will see a boost to activity both on the lake and in the community as youth from across the state fill Lake Logan Martin for the ASABFA Fishing Tournament. Gather said the Chamber has already registered 210 boats for the event, and each consists of a three-person team, totaling 630 participants. That doesn’t include the parents, staff and support members who will tag along.

Finally, the Chamber’s premier second-quarter event — the Downtown Pell City Block Party — will be held on June 4 this year, and with the annual crowds increasing steadily volunteers for the event will certainly be needed.

“Please consider joining us and working together to host these large-scale events,” Gather said. “The planning and execution relies heavily on volunteers, and they can and will continue only if we have the support from our membership and residents.”
