What’s up in Odenville

Hello readers! I’m back with this week’s edition of What’s Up in Odenville.

Holidays are gone with no trace of them left anywhere, pink and red hearts have replaced red and green everything, but most of all – for those of you who are worried about those extra pounds you packed on – you can now be mortified by the dreaded swimsuit taunting you from the rack. Why do stores do this to us? First it was Halloween candy, then it’s Thanksgiving gatherings with food, food and more food, then right on the heels of that – BAM! It’s Christmas. Even MORE food, with extra desserts and candy. Then they put SWIMSUITS out (in FEBRUARY!) for us to try to fit 20 pasty white extra pounds in to? Seriously? They are going to expect us to welcome a swimsuit and a mirror after we just over indulged in every candy and dessert recipe shared on social media? Not exactly a great marketing plan for selling swim suits, but it’s an excellent one for gyms selling memberships and tanning salon-selling minutes. As a matter of fact, I will be getting back into my work out routine. Ok, ok. It’s the one from five years ago, but STILL. I’m getting back to it. Tomorrow.

Now, let’s get to the news.

Majestic Outdoor Ministries has wrapped up their youth and teen deer hunts for the season. Founder and CEO Steven Sparks said, “Thank you to everyone that has volunteered their time and resources this season that has made all three of our youth events a HUGE success. This could not have been done without any of you and the thousands of hours that have been worked this year in preparing everything from food plots, building and placing shooting houses and ladder stands, clearing roads, meals, mentoring, providing weapons and ammo and most importantly, being there for someone that needed advice, to talk or pray with. This has been, by far, the best and most successful season we have had and I am already looking forward to next season.” For more information on the ministry, how to donate or volunteer and upcoming events go to majoutdoors.com or email Steven at steve@majoutdoors.com

The next Odenville Area Business Association meeting will be Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Odenville Civic Center. Dona Bonnet with Business Marketing Strategies will be our guest speaker. Hope to see you there!
