DUNCAN, Okla. — A Duncan Middle School student was arrested Thursday after allegedly sticking other students with a needle during class.

Police are not releasing the names of the perpetrator or the number of victims.

“This morning it was reported that a student at Duncan Middle School stuck several other students with a partial butterfly needle,” said Duncan Public Schools Superintendent Melonie Hau. “The student was immediately detained and the Duncan Police Department notified. Upon the arrival of police officers, custody of the student was immediately given to the officers, who are investigating the incident.”

Duncan Police Chief Danny Ford said no serious injuries were reported, but the victims would be checked for possible adverse affects.

“There were no major injuries, but there is always a concern when things like this happen,” he said.

“The well-being of our students is paramount. Duncan Regional Hospital was immediately notified of the incident,” said Hau. “All students and families involved were contacted, and the students affected were sent to the hospital and received a consultation of the appropriate medical protocol.”

Ford said the charges that would be filed against the student were still being reviewed.

“There’s going to be assault charges for sure,” he said.

Hau stated the school would take appropriate disciplinary actions after reviewing all the facts.
