- Moody Highlights
Lincoln 38 Moody 7
An inspired performance by Lincoln quarterback Zay Caldwell at home this past Thursday, gave Lincoln a crucial win and a spot in the playoffs, while Moody’s team suffered a horrible injury to their best defensive player and a fourth loss in the region that keeps them off the field come November.
After falling back 14-0 early, Moody running back Gabe Webb scored on a one-yard run after a long drive to cut Lincoln’s lead to seven.
Caldwell shredded the Blue Devils’ defense through the air with 255 yards passing and three touchdowns, including two of over 50 yards.
Moody managed several sustained drives in the game and bent the Golden Bears’ defense, but two untimely turnovers and a devastating injury to linebacker Brett Staggs’ midsection seemed to take the wind out of the Blue Devils’ sails.
Week 10 preview Moody (5-4) vs. Arab (1-9)
Moody can reduce the sting of missing out on a playoff berth with a victory Friday, at home, against Arab, which would give Moody a winning record for the season. The Arabian Knights have struggled all season, with an anemic offense that is averaging less than 11-points-per-game. The key to victory will be the play of Blue Devils’ defensive ends Chase Kelly and Sammy Wright. Arab’s glaring weakness is that their offensive line cannot protect Junior quarterback Daulton Hyatt, who is scrambling for his life on most offensive plays. If Moody’s defensive ends can keep Hyatt contained in the pocket, and if linebacker Jacob Webber can step in and fill the very big leadership shoes of Moody’s injured defensive star Brett Staggs, then Moody should be able to control the game and get that sixth victory.
