Winterboro 34 Victory Christian 15

After jumping out to a 15-0 lead behind the arm of Harrison Cheatwood’s two touchdown passes to Lucas Riley and Ethan Carlisle, the young Winterboro offense stunned the heavily favored Lions with 34 unanswered points, 26 of them in the second half.

Plagued by special team mistakes, including a fumble on a fake punt, and an inability to move the ball against the Bulldog’s defensive front four for almost the entire second half, Victory Christian fans sat by helplessly as they saw their perfect 6-0 record come to an end.

Week 8 matchup: Victory Christian (6-1) vs. Wadley (5-1)

The Lions must shake off last week’s loss and be ready for Wadley, because essentially this home game for VCS will determine the regional champion in 1A-R5. There is little doubt that the Bulldogs will be the Lions’ toughest test to date, taking on a strong running attack. The Bulldogs are bringing senior Kamaury Avery to Pell City this Friday, who has been a super tailback – gaining over 1,000 yards on the ground in each of his previous three seasons.

The key to victory this week for the Lions is controlling the line of scrimmage. On both sides of the ball Wadley is small and lacks depth. If Coach Sanders rolls his linebackers down and gets his boys to control the edge, they will control this game.
