Ashville Highlight

Ashville 48 Pleasant Valley 22

Ashville’s homecoming last Friday turned into a point-scoring party, with Landon Cornutt (on a five-yard jet sweep), Judd Mundy (three-yard QB keeper) and Kenny Brady all running for touchdowns to give Ashville a 21-0 halftime lead. In the second half, Cornutt scored two more touchdowns, with Hunter Huckbay breaking off a 33-yard touchdown run of his own to keep Pleasant Valley at bay, breaking a five game losing streak and breathing life back into Ashville’s program.

Week 8 matchup: Ashville (2-5) @ Walter Wellborn (4-3)

Ashville’s season turns difficult once more as they road trip to Anniston to take on a young Walter Wellborn team in a pivotal game for the Panthers’ playoff hopes.

Led on offense by #11 Sophomore QB Austin McQueen, Walter Wellborn has made great strides with their young offensive weapons, particularly #26, Sophomore running back Pat Harris, who has great vision and is a potent threat in the open field. As for the Panthers’ defense, Ashville needs to do some down-blocking on senior linebacker DJ Rhoden (#25) who has incredible lateral movement and can break runners down consistently.
