Even with the rain, it didn’t stop anyone from enjoying a picnic.
Ideal Market, 339 Walnut St. in downtown Johnstown, held a Hockeyville picnic lunch Tuesday for those hitting up Hockeyville activities or looking to grab a quick bite over their lunch break.

Gary May, store manager, said business at the store wouldn’t be that busy with Hockeyville activities in downtown so they decided to get on board with festivities.
“We wanted to do something positive for the community since we knew there’d be a lot of traffic and people coming into town,” he said.
The Hockeyville picnic lunch consisted of an Oscar Mayer hot dog, a bag of Snyder of Berlin potato chips and Galliker’s ice tea for $1.
There also were hot sausages, french fries and gobs.
Galliker’s gave samples of ice cream and its new pumpkin pie milk.
Pepsi was on hand giving out soda and juice.
Hot 92 and Key 96 played tunes to entertain the crowds.
“Even with as bad as it’s been with the rain, people are lining up,” May said. “At one point the line wrapped to the back of the parking lot. You don’t mind putting in the effort when you see people taking advantage of what is offered.”
Barbara Mish of Davidsville said she learned about the picnic in The Tribune-Democrat and wanted to come and check it out.
“It’s really nice to see a lot of people out,” she said while enjoying some ice cream. “It reminds me of how vibrant downtown was in the ’60s and ’70s.”
She applauded Ideal Market for taking the time to have the picnic in honor of Hockeyville.
“This is a wonderful idea,” Mish said.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Johnstown Hockeyville Legacy Fund.
On Monday, a similar picnic was held at the store that raised $300 for the fund.
“Hopefully, we’ll do $500 today,” May said.
