- Saints Highlight
Mortimer Jordan 40 St. Clair County 35
Odenville hosted an exciting, pulse-racing regional battle in which, despite a fantastic effort, St. Clair County just couldn’t stop Mortimer Jordan quarterback Duncan Hodges and lost the battle of two-point conversions as the Blue Devils took an early 24-8 lead and managed to break the Saints undefeated record last Friday night despite a furious comeback mounted by the Saints late in the game.
A touchdown run by Saints’ quarterback Taylor Mickens and a touchdown by running back Anthony Byrd late in the third quarter closed the Mortimer Jordan lead, but a fourth quarter score and two point conversion by the Blue Devils early in the fourth quarter sealed the loss for St. Clair.
Week Five Preview vs. Southside Gadsden (3-2)
It is out of the frying pan and into the fryer for the Saints as they welcome in 6A powerhouse Southside Gadsden, who are coming off a week in which they hung 62 points against opponent Brewer.
There will be no rest for the Saints defense this week. Just coming off the three headed monster of Spencer Brown, Hodges and Kalin Stringer from Mortimer Jordan’s backfield, St. Clair County’s D will now have to contend with #34 Junior RB Alaric Williams, an Auburn commitment and one of Scout magazine’s top 100 athletes in the country.
Now that we have reached the midpoint of the season, look for the Panthers to open up their offense with more from their passing game, led by #3 Senior QB Grey Daugherty. This week’s non-regional matchup will likely be the Saints biggest challenge to date.
