The Leeds Green Wave bounced back from a tough region loss at Munford last week. They held the Central of Clay County Volunteers to 56 total yards of offense in a 23 – 0 shutout on the road.

The Green Wave had to discover what kind of character they had. Losing a hard fought game like last Friday night’s 49 – 48 overtime loss at Munford can send most teams into a tailspin. Leeds also played the game without senior running back Tre Nation. Tyler Rose and Jermain Williams stepped up to the plate in his absence.

Leeds Jumped to a 10 – 0 lead after the first quarter, thanks to a TaDarryl Marshall to Koi Freeman touchdown and a 27-yard field goal from Morgan Coston.

Marshall got in the scoring column in the second quarter with a long scramble for a touchdown, giving Leeds a 17 – 0 lead at halftime.

The rest of the scoring for the Green Wave came from kicker Morgan Coston. He succeeded on field goals of 24 and 36 yards. The Leeds defense held the Volunteers to a mere 56 yards of total offense in a 23 – 0 road win for the Green Wave

THE STATS:

Morgan Coston was the man of the night converting field goals of 27, 24, and 36 yards and both extra points. TaDarryl Marshall led the rushing attack with 101 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown. Tyler Rose had 47 yards rushing on 12 carries and Jermaim Smith had 31 yards on 10 carries. Koi Freeman had 3 receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown. Josephous Smith led the Green Wave defense with 13 tackles. Arthur Patton added two fumble recoveries and Jermain Williams had one. Jaylen Washington added another interception to his collection.

This week will be homecoming for the Green Wave. Leeds will face region foe Elmore County on Friday night. Elmore County helped the Green Wave out last season with a win over Dadeville late in the season, giving Leeds the region title. The Panthers struck again this season with a 43 – 42 win over Munford last Friday night. The Panthers are tied for first place with the Handley Tigers with a record on 2 – 0, while Leeds is 0 – 1 in region play. Leeds will host Piedmont on next Thursday night for the second game of a two-week home stand. Kickoff for tomorrow night’s homecoming game is 7 p.m. at Homer Smiles Field.
