United Way kicks off local campaign at Rotary

United Way of Central Alabama held its St. Clair County kickoff at the Pell City Rotary Club meeting, Tuesday, Sept.1.

Keynote speaker was Nancy Geodecke, CEO of Mayer Electric Supply Company and the first female campaign chair for United Way. In addition to her current role with the organization, Geodecke has been an active member in serving her community through several local nonprofit organizations.

The Central Alabama branch of the worldwide nonprofit organization was founded in 1923 in Birmingham and has a rich history of serving the community surrounding it. The organization focuses on bringing individuals and communities together to find solutions for pressing community needs in the five-county region, which includes St. Clair County. Among others, education, financial stability, and health services are areas that United Way seeks to improve the quality of for communities around the world.

Funds raised by the organization benefit more than 80 nonprofit organizations that United Way partners with throughout the region. Those partners include over 40 agencies that serve the residents of St. Clair County and over six agencies located here.
