New London Firefighters had double cause for concern Saturday evening when they responded to a gas leak at US 231 South and Rabbit Branch Road. At the site, firefighters found a sheared gas line directly behind a building known to contain fireworks and ammunition. A vehicle had hit a gas meter and ruptured the line.
Pell City Fire Department responded to assess the situation, and all roads in the area were ultimately closed for about an hour until Alagasco arrived and shut down the line. New London VFD responded with three trucks and three firemen to the location, and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office had one deputy at the scene. No injuries were reported.
