St. Clair Correctional officer assaulted by inmate

A male correctional officer at the St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville was injured today after being assaulted by an inmate. The assault happened during the morning meal.

According to a release from the Alabama Department of Corrections (DOC), the officer was transported to an offsite medical facility for treatment. DOC officials report the officer’s injuries are non-life-threating.

The assault is under investigation by the Alabama Department of Corrections Investigations and Intelligence Division.
