Folks in central St. Clair County have known for almost a year that one place to go to for authentic Philly cheese steaks, fresh Italian pizza, and award-winning pickled vegetables is Louie’s Pickles and Italian Deli. Well, coming next month, Pell City residents will have the opportunity to learn for themselves.

On April 8, owner Lou Consoli said he plans to open a second Louie’s Pickles location around May 30 in Pell City’s Publix shopping Center on US 231. Consoli said the new establishment would offer customers the same experience as what they receive at his current Odenville location.

The store and restaurant will feature a massive pickle bar with multiple kinds of specialty pickles stored in 5-gallon buckets. It also offers customers a selection of hot sauces, fresh, locally sourced vegetables and authentic Philly cheese steaks, which are made with ingredients Consoli has flown in from his hometown — Philadelphia.

“We use the same bread, meats and cheeses they do,” Consoli said of the restaurants in the Northeast that brought notoriety to the sandwich. I’ve eaten millions of them up there, and from that I know how to make a Philly cheese steak.”

Consoli made the announcement on 94.1 The River on April 8. Check upcoming issues of the St. Clair News-Aegis for more on Consoli, his wife and co-owner Becky, and their restaurant. For more about Louie’s Pickles, visit its Facebook page at facebook.com/louiespickles.
