On December 9, 2014, an anonymous woman dropped her diamond engagement ring, valued at $1,850, and her and wedding band, into a kettle in Boston in honor of her late husband. 

According to the Associated Press, the woman included a note saying “… there’s no price on love or the sentimental value of this ring. But money will help the kids. May everyone have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!”
